Gameweek 2 Roundup

Welcome to the Gameweek 2 Roundup of the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League! The divisions are starting to take shape as results settled in the second weekend of fixtures in the GMWFL.



 

Premier Division


Mancunian Unity B 1 - 2 Hyde United

Mancunian Unity B fought well against Hyde United, however, their attack was too good for the Unity defence in a close-fought battle.


AFC Boltonians Ladies 2 - 6 Rochdale AFC

AFC Boltonians welcomed league leaders Rochdale but came away with nothing despite scoring two as Rochdale took all three points after scoring six goals.


Manchester Laces Yellow 4 - 2 Whalley Range

Manchester Laces were helped to a victory by Stephanie A who scored two out of the four goals for Laces. Whalley Range were able to find the net twice but it wasn't enough.


West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves 1 - 3 Oldham Athletic Women

Oldham Athletic visited West Didsbury & Chorlton, taking home all three points with goals from Thaila M and Holly F.B.


Division 1


AFC Oldham Women 2 - 3 AFC Urmston Meadowside

AFC Oldham put up a fighting battle at home but were ultimately tested by AFC Urmston who edged it, scoring one more than the home team.


Lymm Rovers 1 - 1 Bury FC Reserves

The points were shared at Lymm, with goals from Katie F for Lymm and Stephanie T for Bury Reserves.


Reddish North End Pinks 5 - 1 Crompton

Reddish sit top of the table after scoring five against Crompton, taking the three points making it two wins from two.


Rochdale Community 1 - 4 Eccles United

Rochdale put in a much-improved performance against Eccles but were unable to stop the Eccles front line, conceding four across the game. Eccles take home the three points.


Tiki Taka Bolton 0 - 4 Swinton Ladies

Swinton Ladies put in a good performance to keep a clean sheet and score four against the Bolton side. Tiki Taka will be looking to win their first of the season as they take on AFC Urmston away from home.


Division 2


AFC Stockport 3 - 4 Cherrybrook Ladies

In a game full of goals, Cherrybrook managed to edge it against AFC Stockport with a goal from Rachael F in the 72nd minute, taking home the three points.


Leigh Genesis 3 - 4 Manchester Laces Teal

Another game with plenty of action, Laces Teal were able to take home the three points with goals from four different goal scorers; Helen H, Rosa H, Shannon L and Laura T.


Wilmslow Albion 2 - 1 Bury FC Development

Wilmslow Albion managed to keep the three points at home with a tough, well-fought display at Oakwood Farm. Wilmslow sit top of the table with six points after two games.


Division 3


Ashton On Mersey 4 - 0 Glossop North End

Ashton On Mersey put in a top performance to put them second in the table, scoring four goals and keeping a clean sheet against Glossop North End.


North Walkden 2 - 1 Astley Bridge

Astley Bridge were unfortunate to not make it two wins from two, tough opposition in North Walkden means they, unfortunately, came away with nothing as the home side were able to put two past the Astley Bridge keeper.


Westbury Sports Club 7 - 0 Stalybridge Celtic

Westbury Sports Club managed to win their first game of the season with an excellent victory against Stalybridge Celtic during the second game week.


Withington Corinthians 0 - 7 Deans Youth & Ladies

Withington Corinthians were unable to respond against a dominant Deans side who were able to put seven goals into the Corinthian's net. Drew S helped Deans Y&L to the win, managing to score three goals to make it a hat trick.


AFC Urmston Athena 4 - 4 Manchester Vixens

The points were shared at Urmston as the two sides found the back of the net four times, each. Three goals from Grace F and one from Lola A helped Urmston ensure they take one point from the fixture.


U18s Division A


Accrington Stanley Red 5 - 1 Rochdale Community Trust

Accrington just edged it in the first half scoring two against Rochdale's one, but continued their goalscoring theme in the second half, putting another three in the back of the Rochdale net taking all three points home after a shock defeat during the first game week.


Brooklands Dragons 2 - 10 Bolton Wanderers

The Wanderers showed their class as they were able to put ten past Brooklands Dragons, however the Dragons didn't fail to find the net with goals from Ade W and Estelle O.


Ashton Town 5 - 1 Blackpool FC

Ashton Town were dominant during the game managing to put five goals past the seagulls, however failed to keep a clean sheet as Jessica L managed to find the net for Blackpool.


U18s Division B


Chorley 1 - 1 Macclesfield

Chorley managed to rescue a point in their fixture this weekend, as Macclesfield led one-nil at the break.


Radcliffe 1 - 5 Sale United

Sale United put in a strong performance with four goals scored by Mae W to help the side to their second victory this season, putting them top of the table.


U18s Division C


Avro 5 - 1 FC Bluestar

Scores level at halftime, Avro managed to find their shooting boots putting four past the Bluestar keeper in the second half. Frankie B put the game to bed with her second goal of the game in the 81st minute, after also netting to make it four goals to one in the 69th minute.


Brendon Bees 5 - 3 Spurley Hey

Brendon Bees take the three points from Saturday's fixture. Despite Spurley Hey's Holle B, Isobel H and Erin M all scoring for the away side, the Bee's attack was a little too much for the Spurley Hey defense.


Euxton Girls 2 - 4 Oldham Athletic

Euxton Girls put in a battling performance scoring goals in both the 12th and 62nd minute, but the Oldham side managed to keep their professionalism, putting four in the back of Euxton's net.


U18s Division D


Flixton Juniors 1 - 4 Fleetwood Town Vipers

The Cods put in a strong performance away to Flixton, scoring four to Flixton's one.


Failsworth 0 - 5 Ashton Pumas

Failsworth were unable to find the net during the Match as Ashton Pumas shocked with an excellent display, putting past the Failsworth keeper.


 

As we wrap up the Gameweek 2 Roundup, it’s impossible not to highlight some truly tremendous results that set the tone for an exciting season ahead. Westbury delivered a dominant performance with a 7-0 victory over Stalybridge, showcasing their offensive prowess and determination. Equally impressive was Deans Youth and Ladies’ commanding 7-0 win against Withington Corinthians, demonstrating their strength and cohesion on the field. Additionally, Bolton Wanderers’ 10-2 triumph over Brooklands Dragons was a testament to their relentless attacking play. These remarkable results are just a glimpse of the thrilling action we can expect this season.
